Maple Syrup Cake



  • ½ cup shortening
  • ½ cup Fuller’s Sugarhouse pure maple sugar
  • ½ cup Fuller’s Sugarhouse pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 ¾ cups cake flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (butternuts preferred)


  • ½ cup Fuller’s Sugarhouse pure maple syrup
  • 2 cups Confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter


  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9 inch square baking tin.
  2. Cream shortening; add in the sugar gradually and cream well together.
  3. Add maple syrup a small amount at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Add vanilla and eggs, and beat the mixture vigorously.
  5. Sift the flour, salt and baking powder and add to the mixture alternately with the milk. Mix only enough to blend the flour.
  6. Stir in the chopped nuts and pour into prepared pan. Bake for suggested time.
  7. For the frosting, Bring syrup to boil for 1 minute.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in butter; add sugar and continue cooling until consistency is right for spreading. Frosting thickens as syrup cools.
