Family Baked Beans
Ingredients
- 2 lbs Jacobs Cattle Beans (you may substitute soldier beans if needed)
- 1 cup Fuller’s Sugarhouse pure maple syrup (Grade B is recommended but Dark Amber will also give you plenty of flavor)
- 1/3 cup Fuller’s Sugarhouse Maple Dry Sugar (or you may increase the maple syrup by 1/4 cup instead)
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- Dash pepper
- 2 teaspoons dry mustard
- 1 A nice size piece of Salt Pork
- 1 Large yellow onion, peeled and uncut
Preparation
- After you have picked over your beans and rinsed them, cover them with water and soak overnight
- In the morning, parboil the beans until the skins peel back when you blow on them
- Add the remaining ingredients and bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 9 hours
- Check them from time to time to see if extra water is needed. Serve hot out of the oven!
